February 23rd: Anarchists Against the Wall
AKA Autonomous Social Centre presents:
Resisting the Wall: The Israeli Anarchist Movement
Monday, February 23rd, 2009 at 7:30PM
AKA Autonomous Social Centre (75 Queen Street)
Featuring a talk and discussion with Schachaf Pokolow, a member of Anarchists Against the Wall. The event will include film and photos and will focus both on AATW’s recent work in solidarity with Gaza and the ongoing struggle in the West Bank.
Suggested donation: $5-$15 (no one turned away) * All donations collected will go towards supporting the legal fund of Anarchists Against the Wall, as well as to the struggle against the Apartheid Wall in the Palestinian village of Nil’in.
Anarchists Against the Wall (www.awalls.org) is a direct action group that fights against Israeli apartheid and oppression in all its forms, most recently also the atrocities in Gaza. For five years the group has waged a constant struggle against Israel’s Wall. The work on the ground in the West Bank, alongside the Palestinian popular movement is breaking new ground in the joint struggle for Palestinian liberation. In December 2008, Anarchists Against the Wall and the Bil’in Village Committee were jointly awarded the prestigious Carl von Ossietzky Medal—an award given annually by the Berlin-based International League of Human Rights, named after German Nobel Peace Prize winner Carl von Ossietzky who died in a Nazi concentration camp. Now more than ever, it is critical to support the Israeli resistance movement against the state’s attempted repression of their work. Members of Anarchists Against the Wall continually pay the price for our activism, including being shot, beaten, arrested and indicted. They desperately need funding for legal support for both Palestinian and Israeli activists who are arrested and charged in the course of the struggle. *

January 17th: Maccabees Stand with Gaza
On January 17, 2009, the AKA Autonomous Social Centre presents “Maccabees Stand with Gaza” – a dance show and fundraiser to support the efforts of Anarchists Against the Wall.
DJ Grenadier will be playing a mix of klezmer funk, semitic soul, and intifada hip-hop.
As the massacre on Gaza and the dehumanizing Occupation of the West Bank continues, we stand in solidarity with those resisting colonial power. Through direct action and support of the Palestinian led popular non violent resistance movement, Anarchists Against the Wall (AATW) are working to stop construction of Israel’s “Separation Wall,” a key element of the ongoing dispossession and genocide of the Palestinian people.
All funds from Maccabees Stand with Gaza go to the cross-Turtle Island AATW fundraising tour which stops at the AKA Autonomous Social Centre in Kingston on February 23, 2008. Shachaf Polokow will facilitate a workshop about the Israeli anarchist movement and solidarity with Palestinians. Resistance to the Wall has been met with severe (and sometimes lethal) violence and repression from the Israeli state, especially against Palestinian demonstrators. Money from the tour will be go toward legal fees for Palestinians and Israelis arrested or detained at actions against the Occupation.

All Ages/19+
9pm-10pm: Downtempo dabkets and info session
10pm-2am: Dance-heavy horas
